Yuge Zhou's work stems from her experience as an immigrant from Beijing, China to Chicago, Illinois, USA. It originates from her simple desire to make people aware of and reconsider their surroundings, both physical and psychological. She documents what she refers to as "untrained performances" (everyday actions) and assembles these videos into collaged scenes that suggest an incomplete narrative fragment, an allegorical tale, or a miniature stage to gaze upon.
Yuge Zhou is a Chinese-born, Chicago-based artist. She earned her MFA from the School of the Arts Institute of Chicago as well as a Master's in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University. She has exhibited her work nationally in IL, SC, GA, CO, MN, MI, NY, NM, and VA; and internationally in the United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan, Mexico, China, and Russia.
